Plastic surgery gives me the immense privilege of becoming intimately involved in patients’ lives and journeys. I can truly say that in being a plastic surgeon, I really do “what I love” everyday.

About Dr Moaveni

Zachary is a New Zealand plastic surgeon specialising exclusively in facelift and rhinoplasty surgery. He is the only plastic surgeon in the country with a sole focus on facial aesthetic surgery, with patients traveling from across New Zealand to seek his care.

Zac’s surgical foundation is grounded in advanced training in craniofacial surgery and cleft lip and palate reconstruction, including highly regarded international fellowship experience. He graduated in Medicine from Otago University with several Distinctions and was subsequently awarded the prestigious Gordon-Taylor Gold Medal, recognising the top-ranked surgical trainee across Australia and New Zealand.

He has previously served as Director of Plastic Surgery and Supervisor of Advanced Surgical Training in Plastic Surgery at Waikato Hospital. He has led some of the most complex facial reconstructive cases in New Zealand, spanning severe trauma, oncologic reconstruction, and congenital deformity. This depth of experience informs a highly refined understanding of facial anatomy and surgical planning.

Practice philosophy

Zac’s approach is centred on achieving natural and harmonious rejuvenation, defined by restraint and a deliberate avoidance of overcorrection. Consultations are thorough and considered, with a clear emphasis on understanding each patient’s anatomy, goals, and limitations before recommending a surgical approach.

He is known for a calm, thoughtful, and reassuring manner. He takes care to understand each patient’s goals and is direct and honest about what can be achieved. His approach is grounded in trust, clarity, and a strong emphasis on safety, with a commitment to delivering results that align with each individual’s features.

Zac works with a carefully selected team of anaesthetists and nursing staff who share his high standards and attention to detail.

Other passions

Alongside his clinical work, he has remained deeply committed to charitable surgical missions for over a decade, returning annually to the Solomon Islands and other Pacific countries to perform and teach cleft surgery and complex facial reconstruction. He also serves on the Board of Interplast Australia & New Zealand, an organisation dedicated to providing free reconstructive surgery in the Pacific.

He is regularly invited to lecture in New Zealand and Australia on facelift and rhinoplasty surgery.

Outside of surgery, his wife and five children remain the central focus of his life.
